Off The Grid was awarded the Game of the Year at the GAM3 Awards held in Manila for the very first time on November 22nd.
Gunzilla Games developed the Web3 enabled, free to play, third person battle royale. It also received awards for the Best Shooter Game and the Best Multiplayer Game.
The GAM3 Awards, hosted in partnership with Yield Guild Games, recognized excellence within 21 categories and celebrated the Web3 gaming industry’s progress over the last year. A total prize fund of $5,000,000 was awarded, including grants, product, service, marketing, blockchain, and support from AWS and XAI.
The jury consisted of over 70 representatives of prominent blockchain and gaming organizations including CryptoSlate (Amazon, Google), Ubisoft, Animoca Brands Immutable Arbitrum Blockchain Game Alliance Base Ronin Avalanche. Over one million votes were cast by 143,000 different voters, which contributed significantly to final decisions.
Off The Grid’s success reflects the growing integration of blockchain technology in gaming. The game is set in a cyberpunk dystopian future, on Teardrop Island. It incorporates elements of blockchain technology through the GUNZ Blockchain using the Avalanche Subnet. This offers a player driven economy and tradable assets in the game.
Off The Grid’s early access release achieved rapid growth, topping Epic Games’ free-to-play PC games list and surpassing popular titles like Fortnite and Rocket League. Over the first five-day period, Off The Grid grew at a rate of over one million wallets a day. It accumulated 53 million transactions.
Parallel won awards in the categories of Best Strategy Game (Strategy), Best Card Game (Best Card Game) and Best Esports Game. Pixels, Pirate Nation and other notable winners of the GAM3 Awards took home each two awards. This highlights the innovation and diversity within the Web3 gaming industry.
The event, which had over 300 attendees in person, featured exclusive gameplay trailers for upcoming games such as Golden Tides Unfettered Elumia Providence Shrapnel and others. The event reached 48,000 simultaneous viewers at the peak, and over 450,000 in just 24 hours.
The GAM3 Awards and Off The Grid’s success show the growing acceptance of and integration of Blockchain technology into mainstream gaming. Analysts believe that Off The Grid may be the catalyst of a new bull run in crypto gaming, and could become as important as Axie Infinity during previous cycles.
