The election results were a big deal for Americans. I was one of them. We stayed awake well beyond our normal bedtimes in order to follow the result.
Early results were in Donald Trump’s favor. As the night progressed, this was no mirage. It felt like — as a non-political reporter who occasionally dabbles — there wasn’t a single swing state with Harris securing a so-called easy win, even in counties that saw Biden, well, trump Trump last election.
Crypto Twitter’s users (no offense, X. But Crypto X is just not the same ringing) decided to give Trump the win early, after Polymarket had posted odds showing Trump with a big lead.

“We made history for a reason tonight,” Trump referred to the victory that would occur just a couple of hours following his speech. “I’m excited to be your 47th and your 45th president.”
Trump said, “Trump has said” “star” Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla, and he’s been a vocal Trump supporter in this election.
“We have to protect our geniuses, we don’t have that many of them,” Trump has added.
Last night, however, Vice President Kamala Harris was not heard from. Cedric Richards, Harris’ co-chairman, told an audience at Harris headquarters that votes were still counting a few hours before Trump appeared on stage.
Bitcoin’s price was a clear indication of the enthusiasm, as it soared to new all-time records not just once but twice within an hour. After all my discussions with analysts who believed that a Trump win or lead would see an increase, but not necessarily a record high, I admit to being surprised. But I doubt anyone is complaining.

The pro-crypto voters notched a few wins, whether you include the presidential race which could be argued as being a win for crypto given Trump’s previous promises to remove SEC Chair Gary Gensler and potential pro-crypto policies — though to be clear, we have yet to see anything materialize on that front yet.
Take a look at Ohio’s senate elections, in which pro-crypto Republican Bernie Moreno beat anti-crypto Democrat Sherrod.
According to FEC documents, Defend American Jobs a crypto super PAC linked to Fairshake was a major contributor of millions of dollars in support for Moreno.
It wasn’t just wins. John Deaton, a crypto-friendly candidate in Massachusetts’ race against Senator Elizabeth Warren was unable to defeat her despite receiving millions of dollars for his campaign.
It certainly was a long night, but now that the wait is over, it’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out — and whether campaign promises are fulfilled.
