Even though it’s a new calendar year, many workers expect to see the same job market as in 2019.
According to a Harris Poll-Express Employment Professionals survey, the majority of job seekers report mediocre conditions in the labor market. About 38% reported that there are about the same number of employment opportunities as they were last year. This compares to one third who think there are less job offers now, and just 29% of respondents who say there are more.
The opinions on whether it will be easy to get a job in the next six-months were evenly divided. More than half expressed optimism regarding their future prospects while 49% expected things to be tougher.
"Navigating the job market in 2025 requires resilience and adaptability," said Bill Stoller, Express International CEO.
This survey is a follow-up to data released this week, which showed that the job market was largely stagnant. Many workers chose not to change jobs, and few employers made layoffs. Friday will see the release of the Federal Reserve’s December Jobs Report, which could influence interest rate setting.
The survey found that four out of ten job-seekers who are employed said they wanted a higher salary. Others were seeking more opportunities for growth or a better work-life-balance. This survey showed that women who are employed were also more likely to be looking for new jobs than their male counterparts.
