Cboe proposes 24-hour trading for US Equities to meet international investor demand

Cboe Global Markets announced Monday that it will launch 24 hour trading of U.S. stocks listed on the Cboe EDGX Equities Exchange in order to satisfy what they describe as a growing global demand to access American markets.

“We continue to hear from market participants globally—particularly those in Asia Pacific markets like Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Australia—that they want greater access to U.S. equities trading,” Oliver Sung, Cboe’s Head of North American Equities said. 

Exchange operator Cboe said that it would seek the approval of Securities and Exchange Commission for all-hours, extended trading to be implemented five days per week. Cboe in Chicago currently offers extended trading times for U.S. equity from 4am to 8pm. From Monday to Friday, ET.

New York Stock Exchange, (NYSE), explored the possibility of extending trading hours on its Arca exchange for U.S. shares, exchange traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, to 22-hours in October. After-hours trading would then be possible from 1:30am to 11:15pm. ET, in comparison to the existing extended trading window from 4 a.m. until 8 p.m.
