Ex-Binance executive alleges retaliatory firing over bribery whistleblowing

Bloomberg News reported that Binance fired a senior executive after she voiced concerns regarding an alleged bribery scandal involving her colleague. The report was published on 28 November.

Srivastava was hired by Binance as of April 2022. She previously worked at Mastercard in the Western Europe fintech department. She told the tribunal that she initially believed in the company’s commitment to improving compliance, especially given the global regulatory pressure it faced.

She described the situation as follows: “chaotic&#8221Her unit was under increasing pressure to complete deals after it lost significant revenue due to the loss of a client who had alleged ties to Iran.

Binance Response

Binance alleges that she terminated her after a year for what Binance believes was bribery. “poor performance.”

In a statement, Binance’s lawyer maintained that the decision to end Srivastava’s employment predated her whistleblowing, adding that the alleged bribery was already known and under internal review.

Srivastava claims that the dismissal of her was directly linked to her reporting of the alleged misbehavior.

Under UK law, whistleblowing awards in employment tribunals are uncapped, potentially exposing Binance to significant financial liabilities if the court upholds Srivastava’s claims.

She believes that Binance has done serious damage to both her career and her reputation. It will probably take many years for her to recover. Srivastava concluded:

“My experience at Binance has been personally damaging to my career, an impact I will continue to have to undo over the next few years.”
