Sony launched its Ethereum layer-2 block chain Soneium’s mainnet on Jan. 14, according to an announcement shared by CryptoSlate.
Soneium utilizes the OP Stack Infrastructure developed by the Optimism Foundation, and prioritises streamlined blockchain experiences. Its ecosystem includes Sony’s NFT-focused fan engagement platform, created by SNFT Inc., and the Soneium Spark incubator to support emerging projects.
Soneium Minato’s Spark incubator program selected 32 projects from more than 1,700 applications for its testnet. Independently developed apps span entertainment platforms, gaming, social networks, and financial services. This network now has over 14,000,000 accounts and 47,000,000 transactions.
Sony views Soneium is a foundational layer of a decentralized web. The platform is designed to link Web2 audiences and Web3 technology, encouraging inclusive participation. It also empowers creators by providing them with tools that protect their intellectual property.

Sony’s new projects
Sony announced that, in addition to the launch of Soneium’s mainnet, it would also be introducing new crypto projects, such as a fan-marketing platform and a S. Blox Exchange.
Fan Marketing Platform from SNFT Inc.
This platform allows brands, entrepreneurs, and creators to utilize NFTs to market and engage with fans.
It offers an integrated wallet on the web with social login. It lowers barriers and allows new users to participate in Web3 without any difficulty.
Sony plans to test the platform in conjunction with its entertainment divisions, which will create NFTs via the Soneium Network to enhance fan engagement and deliver more value.
The project is set to launch in 2025.
