Anoncast is a zero-knowledge application that allows users with at least 20,000 ANON to post anonymously on Farcaster. Its token soared 350%. The token has settled down a little, but it is still 190% higher today than yesterday.
This happened after onchain data showed Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's wallet swapping 0.082 ETH for 30,303 ANON Wednesday evening.
The transaction was traced from a tracker following Buterin's vitalik.eth address on Arkham Intelligence. The ANON token’s market capitalization rose to more than $36 million within hours of this transaction.
This swap also marks Buterin's first known investment in a token on Base, the Coinbase-incubated Layer 2 network.
"It must be so fun for Vitalik to get lost in a crowd again" the anoncast Twitter account said, commenting on Buterin's swap.
What is ANON?
Super Anon (ANON), the native token of Anoncast is a cryptocurrency that allows users with at least 20,000 ANONs to post anonymously on Farcaster. The app uses zero-knowledge cryptography, a method that enables authentication without revealing underlying data.
The project was apparently spawned by an AI prompt from Farcaster which suggested that a token anonymous and autonomous be created on Base with the $ANON symbol, according to Toady hawk, founder of The Noun Square.
AnonColors, an art project, and a system for posting zero-knowledge proofs were developed as a result of the decentralized community that grew around the concept.
Anoncast, at the time this article was written, had lowered the requirement for anonymous postings from 20,000 down to 15,000 words.
ANON holders can also promote tweets and delete content. After being highlighted by Farcaster developers, and receiving support from protocol developers for integration, the token has seen increased adoption.
Human anonymity, AI efficiency
Dan Romero is the co-founder of Farcaster and he described Anoncast. "consumer zk app" Kartik Patel was credited as the developer. Patel was previously Head of Engineering at manifold.xyz as well as Head Protocol at OpenSea.

According to data from DEXScreener, trading volume for the token jumped from 105,000 to 5.6 million over an hour after Buterin's swap. As of the writing of this article, the token has a price of $0.05, which is a jump from $0.009 or about 455%.
