Vivek Ramaswamy, former Republican Presidential candidate and now Director of Government Efficiency at DOGE has resigned.
Ramaswamy revealed this on X in a blog post dated Jan. 20, stating he no longer would co-lead DOGE. DOGE is a department that focuses on streamlining US federal government operations.
He expressed optimism about the department’s future under X owner Elon Musk, who he believes will ensure its success.
The statement was made by:
“It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government.”
The political and business figure promised more details in the near future. Ramaswamy has not confirmed reports that he is preparing a campaign for governor.
DOGE
DOGE is a department created by an executive order signed on Jan. 20, 2017 to improve federal technology, productivity and efficiency.
The US Digital Service became the US DOGE Service. This initiative was originally created for the purpose of modernizing government technology. This updated mandate prioritizes updating obsolete systems across federal agencies and streamlining process.
As part of an executive order, federal agencies are required to establish DOGE teams in 30 days. The teams will be composed of experts in technology, legal issues, human resources, and leadership. They will work with DOGE on a modernization plan.
This initiative was managed by a temporary US DOGE Service Temporary Organisation. All related projects are expected to conclude by July 4, 2026, aligning with the conclusion of Trump’s 18-month reform agenda.
Musk replied to the request by saying that:
“There will be meaningful progress every week.”
DOGE has to face resistance, despite ambitious goals. There have been reports that DOGE faces legal challenges, including lawsuits to try and delay the roll out of its program until it meets requirements for transparency.
