It appears that the largest asset manager in the world is poised for a deeper dive into tokenization after investing capital into an existing tokenization company.
BlackRock led the $47 million round of funding for Securitize. This company focuses on bringing traditional and physical financial assets to the blockchain.
Blockchain rails are being used by traditional and fintech firms to reduce costs, improve transparency and enhance the tokenization process. BlackRock Larry Fink calls tokenized securities “the next generation for markets.”
BlackRock Securitize and Securitize have a long history together.
BlackRock launched its first tokenized fund — the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund — in March, offering a different way to earn US dollar yields. Securitize Markets offers subscriptions to this fund for qualified investors.
“We believe that tokenization has the potential to drive a significant transformation in capital markets infrastructure,” Joseph Chalom is BlackRock’s global head for strategic ecosystem partnership. “Our investment in Securitize is another step in the evolution of our digital assets strategy.”
Chalom now serves on the Securitize board.
Hamilton Lane Capital, ParaFi Capital, and Tradeweb Markets are also investors.
