Coinbase’s executive urges the industry to pay attention to how politicians elaborate on crypto.
The crypto community has been impacted by the outcome of the presidential elections. “an extraordinarily successful election year” Faryar Shirzad, Chief Policy Officer at Coinbase, said that the segment was a part of Coinbase’s policy.
“Whatever happens on Election Day will be just additive to the success we’ve already had by putting ourselves on the main political stage,” Blockworks executive stated during an interview conducted with Permissionless last week.
Donald Trump “deserves enormous credit for what he’s said on the crypto issues and how comprehensive his vision has been,” Shirzad added. Harris also received praise for her attempts to engage with the cryptocommunity, and the apparent intention of Harris to be more productive on this issue.
“There’s reason to feel optimism on both sides,” He clarified. “But at the end of the day, more substance and more detail are critical, and we’re hoping to get more from the vice president between now and Election Day.”
Harris revealed his new look on Monday, but not before Shirzad was interviewed. “opportunity agenda” This includes “supporting a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets so Black men who invest in and own these assets are protected.”
Harris, who was praised by some for the initiative that night, failed to mention Blockchain in his speech.
Shirzad continues to be interviewed by Blockworks.

Blockworks: What are your thoughts on the recent efforts to promote crypto and its impact in the last few months?
Shirzad: The community should be very proud that we have already had a historic election in terms of how many candidates spoke out about the crypto issue and who filled out their Stand With Crypto survey. [and] Who’ve recognized the US as a global leader in digital assets innovation?
Don’t forget how far you’ve come.
Blockworks: Mention Trump “deserves enormous credit.” How would you rate his comments on cryptography?
Shirzad: He said that he thought three points were most important.
Two, saying that crypto should be developed in the United States is huge. Second, I would say that [regulators] You shouldn’t abuse your power to harm an industry.
And then I think the thing that people haven’t paid the most attention to — which I think was the most important thing he said — is that he would protect the right for people to self-custody their crypto.
My interpretation of what he means is that he’s protecting the DeFi ecosystem and the ability of individuals … to control [their wallet] I think that was a huge, huge policy victory and is something we hope the Democrats will embrace at some point. This was an enormous policy win, and we are hoping that the Democrats will also embrace it at some stage.
Blockworks: How have you interacted with Harris’ campaign on the other side?
Shirzad: They’ve had a number of outreach sessions — some that they organized and some that allies in Congress or on the outside have organized. I have participated in several of them.
The tone was positive and curious. We were eager to understand the issue and to share our thoughts.
Blockworks: What happens after we elect a new president (in relation to the impact on crypto)?
Shirzad: You’ll see early, and perhaps even very, statements from the Trump Team about areas where the President-elect wants to make his mark, regulatoryly. That will definitely be visible.
It’ll probably be less obvious if the vice-president is elected, because she will be taking over an administration that she has already been a member of.
But certainly, the appointment of personnel is going to be really a big deal — the people that get picked for key cabinet and agency slots. The early actions will be visible to the public, or they may take place in a quieter manner.
Blockworks: Donald Trump announced that he was going to fire Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler. Are you advocating a replacement for Gensler in such a situation?
Shirzad: We won’t comment on any specific appointments as a business.
We all think the same way. [candidates] It is important to ensure that the economic interests and national security of America are promoted. The president will ultimately decide on who to select.
Blockworks: What House and Senate races are you watching?
Shirzad: We’re not going to comment on specific races but, in general, we were pleased to see that crypto was a big issue. There aren’t many candidates who have decided to send a message to voters against cryptocurrency.
It doesn’t have any resonance. I think you can fit every anti-crypto voter in the country all in a single bus — maybe even a single minivan.
In the future, I believe that politicians will realize this, and crypto is going to become a major issue on political ballots. It makes me feel good to know that I’m on the correct side of history.
