Congress leaders unveiled a bill that will fund the federal government for another three months in a move lasting 11 hours.
The lawmakers are narrowly avoiding a government shut down if the bill passes. But the deadline would be during Trump’s first crucial 100 days as president.
The lawmakers have now until Friday in order to approve the 1,500-page continuing resolution that has been highly anticipated. House Rules Committee has to give its approval for a breach of the 72 hour rule. The bill text would be published three days prior to a voting date. The Senate requires unanimous consent to violate the 72-hour rule in order for the legislation to be passed before the deadline.
Republicans and Democrats agree, as we have written before, that the best, (and currently the only,) option to avoid a shutdown is a continuing resolution.
The bill highlights:
- Hurricanes Milton and Helene have prompted a total of $110.4 billion disaster relief, the majority of which will go to states located in southern US.
- The District could bring back the Commanders by negotiating a deal that gives DC the control of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium.
- A 3.8% “cost of living” Increase on Congressional salary, which is currently at $174,000.
