Ethereum now faster with a new EIP
All Ethereum users want the network to run faster. Three ways can be used to achieve this.

On Saturday, the EIP-7781 proposal was unveiled.
EIP-7781, a proposal from Ben Adams, founder of Illyriad Games, and Nethermind contributor Ben Adams wants to cut the slot times for Ethereum L1 down from 12 to 8 seconds.
EIP 7781 is cited as having a 33% improvement in throughput, and a reduced latency of based L2 rollsups. That roughly translates into a gas limit increasing from 30,000,000 to 40,000,000 or a blob number increase from 6,000,000 to 8,000,000.
As long as block sizes do not change, the aggregate peak bandwidth requirements will not also increase.
Ethereum will be quicker without increasing bandwidth requirements for individual nodes.
Justin Drake from the Ethereum Foundation, a researcher, has given his approval to this proposal. Justin Drake agrees EIP 7781 could increase throughput in DEXs by roughly 50%, and DEXs, like Uniswap, would be roughly 1,22x more effective.
EIP-7781, if passed, would have a significant impact on based rollups such as Taiko. Its architecture relies heavily on the L1 sequencer (and is therefore constrained by the block times of L1), in contrast to more traditional rollups, like Optimism or Arbitrum that run their own centralized sequencing.
The change is welcome, but we wonder if the EIP just adds another EIP to an Ethereum roadmap that’s already packed with EIPs that are waiting for implementation.
Recall the recent Ethereum All Core developers (ACD call) where the Pectra Hard fork was divided in half (with 20+ EIPs already) and scheduled to occur in the early years of 2025.
