John Deaton, a pro-XRP attorney, launches a bid to defeat Elizabeth Warren

John Deaton is a pro-crypto attorney who has launched a bid to replace Senator Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts. 

The website for his campaign was made live this weekend. Deaton is running as a Republican to take on Warren. Deaton also created a campaign Facebook page, claiming that Warren “gets nothing done” Massachusetts.

Deaton is an attorney who has been known to be a Ripple supporter. He founded and hosts CryptoLaw US. CryptoLaw includes a library of news and blog articles that focus on regulatory and legal updates for crypto.

He publicly criticised Warren and Gary Gensler’s Securities and Exchange Commission and their treatment of cryptocurrency, and also weighed in on SEC’s actions against Ripple Binance and Coinbase.

Deaton, a Ripple shareholder himself, filed a 2021 motion to intervene in behalf of the thousands of XRP owners in SEC case against Ripple. He argued that the interests of the XRP investors were not represented. Deaton owned XRP as well.

Deaton hinted at a possible senate run in December, when he asked 300,000.X fans if they thought he should purchase a house in Massachusetts and then run for the senate. 

“I’m not suggesting I would win, but how I would love to confront her,” He said at that time.

Warren, a prominent critic of cryptocurrency, has previously claimed that the Middle East is home to many terrorist organisations who use crypto for their funding. Elliptic’s blockchain analytics and Treasury Department have debunked the claim. 

The SEC was also criticized for its approval of a number bitcoin spot ETFs back in January. She claimed that regulatory agencies were not doing their job. “wrong on the law and wrong on the policy.”

Warren is currently working to tighten the anti-money laundering regulations regarding crypto. She introduced her Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Bill again in October. The bill is supported by 19 senators, but it has also been criticized for potentially suppressing innovation within the industry.

Deaton, who has a crypto background, told The Boston Globe he was still interested in the field. “not running on crypto.”
