Solana Mobile App Launch Season is Here

Solana Mobile revealed a month ago that it would begin shipping the Solana Seeker in 2025. It will be the second iteration in the Solana Phone experiment. Seeker’s early success is partly due to speculation about the lucrative airdrops that will accompany this phone. Solana Mobile’s general manager Emmett Holler confirmed that the phone had garnered over 145,000 preorders.

It’s been a little under the radar that Solana is quietly expanding its app ecosystem to mobile. Jupiter, a Solana DeFi-based giant, just unveiled its mobile platform. Solana apps DRiP (Drop), Birdeye and Cube Exchange are all in development for mobile.

It seems that Solana has a momentous occasion where everyone wants to create a mobile application, or is at least considering it.

Bartosz Lipinski agreed that a mobile application is likely to be a table stakes requirement for Solana project. In order for blockchain technology to be more accessible, the platform needs to have a mobile app. “meet users where they are — on their phones,” Lipinski stated.

Theoretically, this is great news. But the crypto community has been aware of the importance of mobile for years. Solana’s app store is about to release a host of applications. A spokesperson stated that DRiP will be released in December. Cube Telegram is due next week and iOS is scheduled for November. Birdeye’s application is coming soon.

When these Solana Apps are released, it will be interesting to see if they gain widespread adoption. In at least some cases, builders are thinking that adoption may come from one of crypto’s few mobile success stories to date — Telegram.

Lipinski said Cube released a version on Telegram to bypass app store approval hurdles, and Telegram has native crypto integration.

Caitlin Cook, Director of Growth at the Solana-based mobile application Moonwalk Fitness said Telegram was good for its quick accessibility and lighter features but that it had limitations.

“[If] your product requires deep functionality, a custom brand experience, and more scalability, building a native app for the app store is probs a better strategy,” Cook stated in a message.

Regardless, Solana mobile app launches are actually here — not just vaguely in the future. It seems that the reason for this is partly due to Solana Mobile’s continued development. With its big ambitions, and with the support of Solana Co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko behind it, Solana Mobile has been leading the charge in making crypto mobile a more real thing.
