Crypto Twitter’s search for the top crypto currencies has been boosted by SOL’s new record highs. “next Solana” The show is on.
Two contenders are the MoveVM-based chains Sui, and Aptos. Both chains were created in the previous crypto-cycle, by teams that had backgrounds at Facebook. Facebook developed the Move language as part its Libra project (later named Diem).
SUI’s price performance has been superior to APT in terms of a year-to-date basis, after SUI overtook Aptos as the market leader in mid September.
SUI’s stock price is now above the pre-outage levels despite a two-hour interruption yesterday. This reinforces the perception that Sui will be the next Solana, given the history of the latter in terms of its outages.
Sui and Aptos have a very similar TVL (see the chart below), probably due to ongoing campaigns to encourage liquidity. As far as active dapps on the L1s, both are also fairly even — Sui has 44, Aptos has 49 — based on DefiLlama’s numbers.
Sui’s DEX trading volume saw a 3x increase since September. This was a huge leap overtaking Aptos.
Sui also outperforms Aptos in terms of fees. In October, Sui generated $1.1 million compared to $196k.
Both chains pursue real-world assets in TradFi. Ondo deployed its USDY tokenized Treausurys on both chains.
Aptos announced last week that BlackRock had deployed its tokenized RWA BUIDL Fund, and Sui announced a partnership today with Franklin Templeton’s digital assets division to support ecosystem development.
Sui, as well as Aptos, are both experimenting with their own hardware. Sui is pushing hard into gaming with its handheld SuiPlay0x1, while Aptos went the route of the budget-priced JamboPhone.
