The Stanley cups were one of the most popular consumer products in the last year. Millions of Stanley Cups are now being recalled due to a potential fire hazard.
On Thursday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that 2.6 millions of the Stanley Switchback & Trigger Action Travel Mugs sold in the U.S. were being recalled due to their defective design. “lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.”
The CPSC stated that the double-walled mugs in question come in a range of colours and sizes (12, 16 or 20 ounces) with a polypropylene cap. Stanley is printed on the top and bottom of each mug.
Stanley officials noted that they have received 91 worldwide reports of the lids coming off the mugs, which resulted in 38 injuries and 11 people requiring medical treatment. The U.S. accounted for 16 of the reports with two injuries.
The CPSC advised consumers to stop using these mugs immediately and contact Stanley.com for a replacement lid that will be sent at no cost.
Stanley is the brand name of Pacific Market International or PMI Worldwide. It was purchased by HAVI Group in 2021.
